You can harras caster pretty well. There are some skills, like Disrupting Stab, Exhausting Aussault, Temple Strike, that, maybe together with shock, can cause a lot of trouble for a caster.
Of course, if you dont do damage additionally, theres no reason not to take a mesmer instead, so take falling spider and twisting fangs and do some damage too.
Though, overall, I dont know if that use of a sin is overly effective.

see... this is the only thing that fails to impress me with factions. Ritualists, however, are very diverse. Thats one thing I always liked about GW; All the classes had potential for so many different types of gameplay.

I think with the right attribute allocation they should be able to be something like a degen/stater. Bleeds, Poisons, and interrupts (knockdowns) and slows. Or it would be nice if they got some trap abilities like rangers. Think about it, its a ninja. Ninjas should be able to set traps. The only problem is, making their traps unique to them and not just a copy of rangers

Correct me if I'm wrong, but an Assassin is a murderer. Contracted to kill someone/thing. A Ninja is someone who is sometimes hired (but usually works for the benefit of its clan) to steal info/items or to kill a target. The Assassin is there to kill somone/thing quickly and quietly. Assassins use poisons and bleeding skill(s). The main point is to do spike damage really.
A Warrior is supposed to do what? Cast spells? Set Traps? Nope, to fight. It can tank (because its a warrior, meaning it must take the punishment as well as deal punishment). The running skills is to supplement the fact that a warriors attacks are all melee. Movement is to close the gap between you and your target. People have decided to use those skills to make the Warrior into a runner (a build). An Assassin can also be turned into a runner. Since the assassin has low armor and no stances, it was never ment to tank.
You can consider an Assassin a melee form of Degen Necromancer. Assassins are not known for setting traps to kill people. Although they should be the ones who can kill they way they do with ranged attacks instead of melee. I mean, look at professional hits. Parascope sniper riffles and click, target neutralized and the assassin packs up and goes home. Oh well.
Try thinking what kind of abilities the assassin has and use that with a 2nd profession and come up with some nice new builds.

maybe my suggestions werent great, but my main point of the thread was that assassins dont have enough diversity (not nearly as much as any other class). You cant deny that. And I argue that the "assassins" in GW are in fact, based off of ninja. I mean, come on, they use kunai -- basically garden spades that chinese farmers used to defend themselves. They also use those little mini sythes for the same reason. They are ninja.

If you look at it, the only two classes that are truly diverse are Ritualist and Ranger.
Monks are a bit diverse because of their smiting ability, but that is pretty limited.
Assassins are excellent spikers and condition dealers. They also are pretty darn good range attackers (via bows/barrage) as well.
I think you will find more innovative uses for Assassins when coupled with their secondaries sooner rather than later. You are already seeing shadow stepping nukers out there. I was also contemplating a shadow stepping trapper as well.
They're only a month old, so it'll take some time for innovation to kick in.

is there a primary that could really utilize the skills of an assassin as a secondary? besides ranger or warrior?
i'm primarily worried about PvE.

Ranger is the #1 choice, and I have seen a few E/A's around for the stealth-nuking technique as well.
A N/A also has some interesting possibilities...
I wonder if a Blackout Me/A could work, especially when the Blackout is applied right after the conditions are stacked.

Yes, basically any /A is viable.
I do agree with you, the Assassin profession is definitely based off of the Ninja, since we are in Cantha, which is based off of old Oriental ways. No assassin would really be using smoke screens, that's the sign of a Ninja.
Anyway, as Jetdoc already stated, Me/A is viable, but so is N/A (not the accronum for Not Available ). Teleport to, do your touch skills/spells, teleport away. Basically, teleport to foe for healing. Bite for more healing, give them a non-vinerial disease, and teleport away.
Mo/A, healing is good. Uh, oh, monsters coming to attack the poor monk, RUN!!!!, or teleport to other people using an assassin teleport skill (enchantment).
Rit/A, weapon spells; hard rez; communion spells
There are many ways that the assassin can help or be helped by the primary or secondary profession. Look around for build and see what can work, what might work, and what does work.
Have fun.

Generally what assasins shine at is mobillity, and that's not something utilized often in pve. Therefore an assasin primary isnt really that usefull in pve (just like the mesmer) and it will stay the domain of mainly monks, warriors, necros and eles imho, with the occasional mesmer, assasin and rit mixed in (though rits might be viable).
For using the assasin on your secondary in PvE there's a single skill that allmost justifies this for all casters: dark escape. It's really awesome, especially when you're a caster. Also some of the random teleport self heals are very good in PvE with the mobs chasing u again.
